Sex and Relationships
School Day Program
Our day program has been created following a specific request by graduate students from an Australian secondary school. They noted that despite an adequate health program in their school's curriculum they felt "ill equipped to navigate the complex and varied issues" that they encountered during their school years. They went on to suggest a number of topics they felt would have helped equip them for dealing with relationships.
Their suggestions have helped form the framework of our day program.
Session 1: (90 minutes)
Sex vs gender
Diversity and sexuality
What is a man?
Body image issues - male and female
Session 2: (90 minutes)
Sexualisation and the media
Sexual and domestic violence
Consent and other legal issues
Session 3: (90 minutes)
Q & A session
The powerful effect of the program is evidenced by 98% of the students recommending that the program is made available to the following year's cohort.
(We recommend that co-ed schools concurrently run our partner girls' program.)
Here's some unsolicited feedback from one of the year 10 boys who attended our ManMade day program, via an email to his teacher who had organised the day.
"Thank you very much for organising the whole day today. I found the talks interesting and insightful, and particularly enjoyed JD and Andrew and thought they did a very impressive job of connecting with a lot of the boys who may not usually contribute. I felt comfortable in sharing information and passed no judgement on anyone else for anything that was said. I found this talk relevant and enjoyed the whole day."
